An interview with Sammy Epperson
Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m Sammy, owner of SJE Photography. I’m dedicated to capturing spaces with accuracy and style, so listings get more attention and better offers.
When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll probably find me on a motorcycle ride with my husband or hanging out with my kids and our dog.
How would you describe your photographic style?
My style is bright, clean, and true-to-life. I focus on accuracy in color and perspective so buyers can clearly understand the home while still feeling drawn into the space.
What's your standard workflow when doing real estate photography, from arrival at the location through to delivery of the images?
My workflow is designed to keep the process smooth, efficient, and consistent from start to finish.
When I arrive at a property, I walk through the home with the agent or homeowner to get familiar with the layout, confirm the shot list, and make any final adjustments to staging or lighting as needed. I carefully plan my shooting order to make the most of natural light and capture the strongest angles of each space, including details that help tell the story of the home.
After the shoot, I hand-select the best images and professionally edit each one for color accuracy, clean lines, and a bright, inviting look that performs well online. I optimize every photo for MLS and web marketing and deliver the final gallery via a convenient online system — typically within 24–48 hours.
How important is Photoshop or digital editing to your process?
Digital editing is an essential part of my workflow because it ensures every image looks clean, accurate, and professionally polished. I use Photoshop and Lightroom to correct color, remove minor distractions, straighten verticals, and balance lighting so that each space looks its best while still remaining true to reality.
My goal is always to enhance a home’s natural features, not mislead buyers, so I keep edits tasteful, realistic, and aligned with MLS compliance guidelines.
What do you enjoy most about photographing real estate, architecture and the built environment?
I love being part of the process that helps someone move into the next chapter of their life. Great photos have the power to create excitement, increase interest, and help a property shine and knowing I play a role in that success is incredibly rewarding.
What advice would you give to someone in Oklahoma who was selling their home?
I always recommend starting with the basics: declutter, clean thoroughly, and make sure the home feels bright and welcoming. Simple steps like opening blinds, replacing burnt-out bulbs, removing personal items, and freshening up landscaping can make a huge difference in the photos — and in how buyers feel the moment they walk in.
It’s also incredibly valuable to invest in professional photography. Your listing’s first showing happens online, and strong visuals are one of the fastest ways to boost interest, increase showings, and potentially improve your final sale price. When a home looks its best from the start, the results follow.
What do you like to do away from work?
When I’m not behind the camera, I love spending time with my husband, our kids, and our dog. We’re big fans of hitting the open road on our Harley’s and taking scenic trips with friends. I also enjoy quiet time to recharge whether that’s relaxing at home or exploring new places at a slower pace.
