My wife Lori and I moved to Eugene in 2001 from Southern California, where I had worked in aerospace engineering and Lori had worked in public education. We love Eugene, and haven't looked back.

I've always had a love for photography, and have used it in my business and personal life in various capacities over the years. I've successfully make the transition from film to digital, and am completely comfortable working in the digital world.

I started photographing homes for realtors in Eugene in 2002, and have grown the business to include residential and commercial real estate, new construction, retail spaces, and product photography all over southern Oregon.

In recent years I've added HD video capability. specifically for property walkthroughs and promos, and more recently low altitude aerial photography.

Tell us a little about yourself.

How would you describe your photographic style?

When i'm shootong interoirs I like to be able to show the flow of the space and be creative with lighting to make the space inviting, but also natural.

I want a potential buyer or client to fall in love with the space.

I also like to point out architectural features by using creative points of view. I often approach exteriors like i do landscapes, looking for a focal point and creating a good composition.

What's your standard workflow when doing real estate photography, from arrival at the location through to delivery of the images?

When I arrive at the location I first tour the property to see if there is anything that needs to be adjusted, and to get a feel for the space. At this time I'll decide which of several techniques I'll use to photograph the space, depending on the feel of the space and the quality of the light.

I typically work through the space starting at the entry, then moving to the main living spaces, kitchen, master bedroom, and other rooms, always paying attention to the flow of the space. I look at the space from the point of view of a potential buyer.

Each image is carefully optimized to produce the highest quality final product. Several exposures may be used to create the final image, depending on the approach I chose for the shoot.

All images are delivered via electronic download from a secure gallery on my website. I deliver two sizes of images, a high resolution one for print use, and one that is optimized specifically for the MLS.

How important is Photoshop or digital editing to your process?

Lightroom and Photoshop are my primary editing tools, and I am proficient in the use of these and several other digital editing tools.

What do you enjoy most about photographing real estate, architecture and the built environment?

I really like to create an image that welcomes a person into a space.

What has been the most memorable photo shoot you've ever done?

Each photo shoot is unique, and that makes every one memorable.

What's the funniest thing that's ever happened for you when you've been on a photo shoot?

I was once 'attacked' by a robot vacuum cleaner. When we entered the home we noticed a noise coming from one of the bedrooms. The agent went to check and out came this robot vacuum cleaner. It came straight across the room and ran into my tripsd, turned, and headed for me. The agent grabbed it and put it back into the bedroom.

What advice would you give to someone in Eugene or the surrounding areas who was selling their home?

Engage the services of a real estate agent who has a good track record and uses a professional home stager and a professional photographer, and follow their advice.

What do you like to do away from work?

We like to go to local theater productions, visit the local wineries, and travel.

He has been photographing all types of properties for me - from urban to rural, and from the most basic starter home to the luxury estate. He has a keen eye for architectural interest and photo composition. In addition to his artistic abilities, he is extremely professional and a great person to work with. Photos speak a thousand words and his quality photography is an asset to our industry."Ann Kieran, Equinox Real Estate
"Steve is our team's go-to real estate photographer because of his professionalism, beautiful work, and quick turn around. He can make any home look like a million bucks and does a great job capturing the special features which make the home rare or unique. He also creates panorama style images for our team so we can better showcase floor plans and create virtual tours. We never have to worry about changing a listing "launch" date because he knows that time is of the essence, yet the quality of his work never suffers when it's up against a deadline. He makes our job as realtors easy by providing the perfect number of photos in two different sizes to accommodate our various marketing forums. We love working with Steve and we're proud to associate our business with him!"The Stephanie Coats Team. Keller Williams Realty.
